THE GENETIC CONTROL OF THE TOMATO RESISTANCE TO FRUIT SKIN CRACKING

Abstract:
On an artificial provocative background tomato samples with an effective resistance to fruit skin cracking (FSC) were selected. Most interesting for selection are the semicultural forms L. esc. var. puriforme, L. esc. pruniforme and the linear varieties Mashinny 1 and Richansky. The varieties G-A-8 and Dragotcennost distinguished by FSC susceptibility and were shown to be valuable for study of the inheritance to this physiological disease. Data of segregation in two backcrosses, received from the crosses between Richansky and Dragotcennost 341 showed that resistance of Richansky is controlled by one pair of dominant genes. The dominant gene causes total resistance of fruit to radial and concentric cracking. A symbol RSC (resistance to skin cracking) is proposed to designate this gene and symbol rsc to designate its recessive allele.
