Abstract:
We have been conducting a genome reseach of hot pepper since 1996 as a comprehensive group effort.
The objectives of our research is: (1) to construct molecular linkage map based on RFLP and AFLP, (2) to select DNA markers tightly linked to major important traits, (3) to breed genetic materials for genome research, and finally (4) to isolate genes controlling major traits through map-based cloning.
We constructed a molecular linkage map of pepper using F2 population of a cross between Capsicum annuum (TF68) and Capsicum chinense (Hananero). The map currently contains a total 355 markers, including 75 RFLP markers and 280 AFLP markers.
The map was constructed using software MAPMAKER (version 3.0) with minimum LOD score of 3.0 and maximum recombination fraction 0.30. The combined map covered 2,521.2 cM with an average interval size between markers of 7.1 cM.
