ISHS Acta Horticulturae 520: XXV International Horticultural Congress, Part 10: Application of Biotechnology and Molecular Biology and Breeding - In Vitro Culture.

IN VITRO PROPAGATION OF SKIMMIA (SKIMMIA JAPONICA THUNB.)

Authors:   G. Ponchia, G. Zanin
Keywords:   Skimmia japonica, 6-benzyladenine, indolebutyric acid, kinetine, micropropagation, thidiazuron
Abstract:
Shoot tip and lateral bud explants of female and male Skimmia japonica clones were established in vitro in Murashige and Skoog salt medium. High proliferation of shoots of the male clone was achieved in Murashige and Skoog medium at high BA concentration (8.9 μM). For the female clone, high shoot proliferation was obtained in Crézé Beauchesne salt medium at all benzyladenine levels (2.2, 4.4, 8.9 μM) and in Murashige and Skoog with thidiazuron. A low concentration of indolebutyric acid was effective to promote root formation, but acclimatization proved to be difficult and all plantlets died.
