Abstract:
We examined the effects of growth regulators on bulbing of lily (Lilium x formolongi hort) seedlings. Abscisic acid and high concentrations of methyl jasmonate (Me-JA) promoted bulb formation of lily seedlings. One μM aminoethoxyvinyl-glycine (AVG) significantly inhibited leaf formation. Leaf formation increased by addition of 10 μM 1-aminocyclopropane-1-carboxylic acid (ACC) or the ABA-synthesis inhibitor fluridone. The effect of Me-JA on the bulb formation of seedlings was not reversed by 10 μM ACC, 1 μM AVG or 1 μM fluridone. Ethylene evolution was strongly inhibited by 10 μM Me-JA, but not affected by Me-JA at concentrations of 1 μM and less. The effect of ABA on swelling of petiole was smaller than that of Me-JA. Leaf formation was promoted by addition of 1 μM fluridone. However, addition of fluridone to culture media also resulted in inhibition of chlorophyll synthesis. Combination ABA with fluridone was effective only for petiole swelling. The relative weight of basal petioles to upper leaf weights was lowest at 0.1 μM fluridone.
