ISHS Acta Horticulturae 52: II Symposium on Timing of the Fieldproduction of Vegetable Crops

FACTORS AFFECTING THE MATURITY OF EARLY AND SUMMER CAULIFLOWERS

Author:   M.B. Wood
Abstract:
A combination of cultivars, sowing dates and raising methods gave a predictable sequence of cropping in June and July.

Supplementary illumination of seedlings and growing to maturing under plastic each advanced maturity. For cropping from August to early October, a comparison between sowing dates based on actual and average accumulated temperature intervals improved the ability to plan calendar sowings but successional plantings of cold stored plants from one sowing date also gave good continuity.

Good quality young transplants gave even maturity. Close spacing in the field delayed maturity.
