ANATOMICAL STUDY OF ABSCISSION ZONE FORMATION AND DEVELOPMENT ON WILD TOMATO SPECIES, LYCOPERSICON PENNELLII

Authors:   T. Tabuchi, T. Daimon, S. Ito, M. Nishiyama, N. Arai, H. Tanaka

Abstract:
Abscission zone formation and development of flower pedicels on wild tomato relatives, L. pennellii were anatomically investigated. The first detectable change was a cell division at the epiderms region of the pedicel. As the floral stage proceeded, cell division of the abscission zone gradually spread to the cortex, vascular system and finally to the central parenchyma region. At anthesis, the abscission zone was composed of six to eight layers of small and flat shaped cells which cut across the pedicel.
