Abstract:
A phytotron trial was designed to study the effect of arbuscular mycorrhization and Phytophthora cinnamomi infection on deacetilbaccatin III production in Taxus baccata. The inoculation with the AM fungus Glomus macrocarpum (alone or together with the application of fosetyl-Al) resulted in an increased stem dry weight compared to the control, fosetyl-Al and P. cinnamomi treatments.
Dry weight of stems was higher in mycorrhizal than nonmycorrhizal plants infected with P. cinnamomi. Although with high variability among replicates, needles from P. cinnamomi inoculated treatments showed higher concentrations of deacetilbaccatin III than plants grown in the control, G. macrocarpum and fosetyl-Al treatments.
