Abstract:
The Bayoud caused by (Fusarium oxysporum) f.sp. (albedinis), is the most important disease of the date palm (Phoenix dactylifera L.). in Nord Africa. In order to develop a rapid selection method, we have extracted different toxin peptidic constituants secreted by the pathogen and evaluated their toxicity on date palm. Three fractions FI, FII, and FIII have been isolated. The most toxic one is FII. The toxicity has been checked on palm seedling, plantlets from tissue culture and detached leaves. The active fractions were purified on high performance liquid chromatography [HPLC]. Some peptidic components, specially T3 [as labelled] were shown to be small polypeptides and produced similar symptoms (leaf rolling) which occur when plants are inoculated with the pathogen. These components could be exploited for pre-selection of plants for resistance to Bayoud disease among plants originating either from tissue cultures (irradiated or non-irradiated) or from conventional breeding programmes. Some toxin characteristics and their production strategies were determined.
