Abstract:
The inheritance of resistance to downy mildew was studied in crosses of the resistant line 5-4-2-1 with the susceptible male sterile lines VK1–5 and K15-6. When the resistant line 5-4-2-1 was crossed with the susceptible VK1–5, in whose pedigree genes for resistance are lacking, the inheritance was recessive.
When the resistant 5-4-2-1 was crossed with the susceptible K15-6, in whose pedigree there are genes for resistance, the inheritance was dominant.
Apparently, a gene present in K15-6 is the influential factor determining the dominant type of inheritance of downy mildew resistance in melons.
