Abstract:
After five years of storage of melon and watermelon seeds under uncontrolled and controlled (gene-bank) conditions, the epiphytic bacteria Bacillus cereus and B. megaterium, Pseudomonas herbicula and P. fluorescens, and Micrococcus, as well as yeast, were found on the seeds.
The amounts of bacteria and yeast on the seeds stored in the Bulgarian national gene bank were less than those on the seeds stored under uncontrolled conditions.
