Abstract:
Attempts were made to breed short-fruited cucumbers resistant to downy mildew at the Vegetable Experiment Station, Gorna Oryahovitsa, from 1990 until 1998. The highly resistant accession PI 179676 and the susceptible G-3 were crossed.
Highly resistant plants from the BC1 generation were selected and self-pollinated.
Subsequently, selection for high resistance and self-pollination was conducted for several generations.
The percentage of highly resistant plants increased in each generation from the BC1F2 (28.2%) through the BC1F7 (98.7%).
