ISHS Acta Horticulturae 51: Symposium on Protected Cultivation of Flowers and Vegetables

SUCCESSIVE CROPS IN PLASTIC HOUSES WITH LOW LEVEL OF HEATING.

Author:   L. Korodi
Abstract:
Analysis of fixed costs for glass - and plastic houses in a certain number of Hungarian cooperatives has shown that depreciation, maintenance and interest on the heating installation can be higher in fully heated plastic houses, than those for the structure, opposite to the apportionment of these costs for glasshouses. Considering this fact, a heating and cropping system has been developed which offers a more intensive use of the heating installations and allows the extension of the cropping period in lighly heated plastic houses. Thus a succession of harvesting dates can be obtained for crops with a short ripening period even in houses of simple design which helps to prevent flooding the market and if linked with plant propagation, to programme supplies for the canning industry in a given period.
