Abstract:
The forcing period of various cultivars of Lilium speciosum in a glasshouse is rather long (150 to 160 days). The period can be made appreciably shorter in the winter by a long-day treatment with artificial irradiation.
Flower production of Lilium 'Enchantment' in the winter involves considerable risk because the available amount of solar radiation is not sufficient in The Netherlands to prevent flower-bud abscission and flower-bud blasting.
The disorders can be prevented by irradiating the plants intensively.
