Abstract:
Convective exchange of sensible heat from a plant canopy has a very important effect on the total energy balance.
By combining the "rate of convection" in radiant models, derivated so far by the author, the simultaneous effect of heat transfer by radiation and convection can be demonstrated.
It can be shown that a high rate of convection can cancel the greenhouse effect.
The beneficial effect of the high reflectivity of additional screens in a glasshouse can also be eliminated by substantial convection.
It is shown that under practical conditions we have to consider an apparent curtain effect:

The basic variable in this equation is the rate of convection (cc), while the curtain factor (cr) is a constant depending only on the radiant properties of the curtain.
