ISHS Acta Horticulturae 509: VI International Symposium on Mango

THE RELATIONSHIP BETWEEN TREE DIMENSIONS, YIELD AND NUTRITIONAL REQUIREMENTS OF MANGO

Authors:   P.J.C. Stassen, E. Hoffman, H.G. Grove
Keywords:   mango, dry mass, stem circumference, tree canopy
Abstract:
In this presentation it will be shown that a highly significant correlation exists between stem circumference, total tree dry mass, tree canopy volume and fruit yield of mango trees. This enables us to obtain useful practical information by simply measuring the stem circumference. In this way the potential harvest and the nutritional requirements of the mango tree may be determined for a tree life-span of twenty years or longer. Other useful information such as the total leaf area and even the total starch content of the tree parts at a particular phenological stage can be calculated.
