Abstract:
A commercial grower requested a model to control growth of Impatiens ‘New Guinea Hybrids’, which would involve light and temperature, growth factors that can be altered in the greenhouse.
Development of Impatiens was subdivided into five distinct periods from ‘potting’ to ‘ready for sale’. The time interval in days between periods was recorded under different regimes of light intensity and temperature in the greenhouse, other growth factors being kept identical.
A simple model is presented that predicts time of maturity of Impatiens by adjusting light and temperature conditions according to the development time expected for the subsequent periods.
Validation of the model will require further experimentation.
