ISHS Acta Horticulturae 505: VII International Symposium on Rubus and Ribes

GENETIC CHARACTERISATION OF RIBES NIGRUM, RIBES RUBRUM AND RIBES GROSSULARIA USING MOLECULAR MARKERS

Authors:   P.G. Lanham, R.M. Brennan
Keywords:   blackcurrant, redcurrant, gooseberry, RAPD, anchored microsatellite
Abstract:
Genetic variation in three Ribes crop species was investigated using molecular markers and fingerprinting of individual genotypes was performed. Twenty one different genotypes of Ribes nigrum were fingerprinted using random amplified polymorphic DNA (RAPD) markers. Sixteen Ribes rubrum genotypes were fingerprinted using anchored microsatellite markers. Twelve Ribes grossularia genotypes were screened for RAPD and anchored microsatellite markers, however, of these, thirteen had individual molecular profiles but three could not be distinguished.
