Abstract:
Red raspberry cultivars and seedling populations from controlled crosses were examined in field and laboratory studies for reaction to Pucciniastrum americanum (Farl.) Arth.
Variation in late yellow rust symptom expression was considered discontinuous and plants were readily classified as resistant, intermediate, or susceptible.
Susceptible x susceptible crosses yielded all susceptible progeny.
In segregating progenies, expected resistant:susceptible ratios for a single gene model were tested.
The data suggest that a single major gene, herein designated Pa, is largely responsible for resistance to . americanum.
