Abstract:
Thirty-nine crosses were attempted in 1996 between 13 Rubus species and two red raspberry (Rubus idaeus) cultivars ('Meeker' and 'Tulameen'). Seedlings were produced from 30 of these crosses representing 11 species hybrids.
In 1997, 14 crosses were attempted, representing nine species, including repeating crosses with the two species that did not produce seedlings in 1996. Seed was produced in 12 of these crosses.
In vitro germination has been successful for eight of the nine species combinations for the 1997 crosses.
No seedlings have been produced from crosses with R. minusculus.
The two years of interspecific hybridization has resulted in hybrids with 19 Rubus species.
Additional interspecific crosses will be attempted when additional species material flowers.
