ISHS Acta Horticulturae 502: II WOCMAP Congress Medicinal and Aromatic Plants, Part 3: Agricultural Production, Post Harvest Techniques, Biotechnology

TRENDS IN MEDICINAL AND AROMATIC PLANT PRODUCTION IN THE UNITED STATES

Author:   L.E. Craker
Keywords:   Biodiversity, cultivation, organic farming, plant protection
Abstract:
A general increase in interest and use of medicinal and aromatic plants as natural products for food and pharmaceutical applications has swept the United States during the past twenty years. As demand for these natural products expands, the efforts of plant collectors and growers to supply the market have created opportunities and problems. Considerations about supply, safety, and sustainability probably best characterize turmoil in the marketplace. To meet the need for safe, sustainable, plant supplies, education and new technology are being utilized.
