Authors:   R.L. de Castro, I.B.I. de Barros
Keywords:   Tissue culture, in-vitro-culture, medicinal plants, propagation, rue
Abstract:
The rue (Ruta graveolens L.) is used in the production of a soap recommended for control of ectoparasite insects (lice). This soap is produced and distributed by the municipal government of Porto Alegre (RS-Brazil). Due to the difficulty in producing seedlings to attend the demand it was necessary the study of its micropropagation. The objectives of this work were to determine a procedure of efficient asepsis and to evaluate the in vitro rue development in different culture media. Sodium hypochlorite solution at 2% of active chlorine, used during 5 and 10 minutes, showed the most efficient procedure in the control of contamination for the establishment in vitro. Among the culture media studied, the Murashige & Skoog medium at half salt concentration (MS½) containing 0.1 mgL-1 6-benzillaminopurine (BAP) resulted in heavier plantlets and larger number of leaves.
