PROGRESS IN STUDIES ON FLAVONOLS FROM SMILAX CAMPESTRIS GRISEB. -SMILACACEAE-

Abstract:
Smilax campestris Griseb. is very used in folk medicine. It has a wide distribution geographic area. Morphological variation, evidenced by changes in leaf size and shape, is very common. Sometimes, this fact makes determination difficult. The aim of this survey is to establish if flavonoids could become systematic markers within the genus. However, phytochemical differences are detected, probably connected to the phytogeographic region from where the exemplars come. Thus, isorhamnetine is detected only in plants from Jujuy, Entre Ríos and Santa Fe and the degree of glycosilation of flavonols decreases from East to West.
