Abstract:
Seeking for new chemopreventive and chemotherapeutic agents effective against Chagas' disease, the efficacy of extracts, purified fractions and two indole alkaloids isolated from Tabernaemontana catharinensis was tested in vitro against trypomastigotes of Trypanosoma cruzi. It was verified through TLC that fractions mainly consisting of alkaloids exhibited increased activities. The two indole alkaloids isolated from the root bark, heyneanine and 12-methoxy-4-methylvoachalotine displayed an LC50 of 890.89 and 356,73 μg/mL, respectively. The positive control crystal violet showed an LC50 of 31 μg/mL.
