RESEARCH ON THE USE OF MEDICINAL PLANTS IN MONTEVIDEO

Abstract:
The aim of this work is to determine the characteristics of the use of medicinal plants in Uruguay's capital city Montevideo. Montevideo has 1.5 million inhabitants lacking of indigenous population. The methodology used was a public opinion poll. The results show that 42% of Montevideo's inhabitants use medicinal herbs and that the most common uses are to treat nervous and gastrointestinal disorders. The most common way of preparation is the infusion. Although lacking of an indigenous population the use of native medicinal plants is extensive in Montevideo.
