DIAGNOSTIC OF THE PRESENT STATE OF THE USE OF ALGAE IN ARGENTINA: DIFFERENT FIELDS OF APPLICATION

Authors:   P.M. Arenas, A.R. Cortella, S.A. Guarrera
Keywords:   algae - commercial products - systematic anatomy
Abstract:
As a consequence of the revival of “natural” products in the last few years, the market has been invaded by a wide range of products elaborated on the base of plants among which algae represent an important fraction.

Twentythree commercial samples have been analyzed, in which 5 species of Cyanophyta, 3 of Chlorophyta, 1 of Chrysophyta, 7 of Phaeophyta and 4 of Rhodophyta have been identified. Some species not consigned on the label have been found, in particular some drastic laxatives (Senna sp.). It is important to deal with and go deeply into systematic studies of the algal flora used in industry and commerce.
