| Abstract:
Phyllanthus sellowianus Müller Arg. (Euphorbiaceae), commonly known as “sarandí blanco”, is a shrub that grows in north-eastern Argentina, southern Brazil, Paraguay and Uruguay. The plant is widely used in the form of infusions or decoctions as a hypoglycemic and diuretic agent. Given its importance as a medicinal plant, this species is included in the National Argentine Pharmacopoeia Edition VI. In the present work, we describe the macropropagation of “sarandí blanco” to harvest clones in different ontogenic stages and to identify metabolites. Cuttings were treated with two regulatory auxins (NAA and IBA) in different concentrations to assay their capacity to promote rooting and regeneration. Rooting and development of complete specimens was achieved, ensuring the supply of plant material required for phytochemical and pharmacological study. With the vegetable material obtained from the different ontogenic stages, 5% W/V infusions were prepared and analyzed by two dimensional chromatography on paper and by UV/Visible spectrometry. A more pronounced chromatographic profile was observed in plants with 2 year old leaves. | |
