Abstract:
Thirty five essential oils of lavender (Lavandula angustifolia P. Miller), lavandin [L. angustifolia P. Mill. x L. latifolia (L.f.) Medikus] and spike lavender [L. latifolia (L.f.) Medikus] obtained from inflorescences harvested in 16 areas of Argentina, 6 standard commercial imported oils of lavandin (cvs. Super, Grosso, Abrial) and one of French lavender oil were analyzed by gas chromatography and infrared spectroscopy. An organoleptic evaluation was also made. Thirtyfive compounds were identified, which accounted from 85.3 to 99.4% of the total oils composition. The statistical study of the results was conducted by two ordination methods: principal components analysis and cluster analysis. By these means, it was possible to allot the Argentinean samples to four groups: the usual lavender, lavandin and spike lavender, and another one called “Argentinean lavandin”.
