Abstract:
The chemical composition of the essential oils from two Brazilian Vitex species (Vitex polygama and Vitex cymosa) is reported.
Both essential oils showed a predominantly sesquiterpenoid composition.
In that of V. polygama the most abundant monoterpenes were -pinene, -pinene and limonene followed by the sesquiterpenes -cadinene and -caryophyllene.
No diterpenes were found in this oil.
In the essential oil of Vitex cymosa the most abundant sesquiterpene was an oxygenated derivative of copaene and two diterpenes were found: phytol and isophytol.
No monoterpenes were found in this oil.
