Abstract:
The essential oil of Lippia integrifolia was analysed by capillary GC interfaced with MS. The main constituents were isolated by using column chromatography and reversed-phase liquid chromatography and their structures established by spectroscopic methods.
The major constituent of the oil is lippifoli-1(6)-en-5-one (4), a ketone based on a new sesquiterpene skeleton named lippifoliane.
Ketone 4 biogenetically derives from integrifolian-1,5-dione (2), which is also a constituent of the oil.
In addition to several known mono and sesquiterpenes the following new sesquiterpenes were identified: trans-humul-9(E)-en-2,6-dione (8); 4,5-seco-african-4,5-dione (9); 1,6-cis- and 1,6-trans-lippifolian-1 -ol-5-one (5) and (6) respectively; lippifoli-1(6)-en-4 -ol-5-one (7) and the sesquiterpenes 10 – 12 whose structures and conformations are discussed.
