ISHS Acta Horticulturae 50: Symposium on Peat in Horticulture

THE PREPARATION OF ARTIFICIAL SOILS BASED ON PEAT MATERIALS FOR GROWING UNDER GLASS AND PLASTICS

Author:   L. Hargitai
Abstract:
Artificial soils are keeping up the natural automatic system of the natural soils which is responsible for regulation and protection against such properties. Our artificial soils prepared for growing under glass are based on a very outstanding Hungarian peat of best quality. This peat is keeping up the structure and supplies the plant at the same time very well with nutrients.

Our system for preparation of artificial soils is started from two basic concepts:

  • We summarized the optimal ranges of plant nutrition and soil properties for greater plant groups after comparing them in a graphical system.
  • According to the need of the plant we planned the properties of the artificial soils.

After this plan we can compose the artificial soils according to the main properties of components.
