Abstract:
The weight of ‘Hayward’ fruit increased by 20 g on average when the synthetic cytokinin CPPU (10-20 ppm) was applied in combination with GA3 (50 ppm) + 2,4-D (25 ppm), in two seasons.
In fruit treated with CPPU alone, or CPPU together with GA3 + 2,4-D, the thickness of the outer pericarp was increased, and the inner pericarp decreased in comparison with control fruit.
The core size was not affected significantly by these bioregulators.
Fruit firmness and skin lightness value were significantly reduced by CPPU and the hormone mixture.
When CPPU was applied with Promalin the fruit growth response was higher than CPPU alone in 'Kramer Hayward' vines.
In contrast, this bioregulator mixture was similar to CPPU alone in increasing ‘Hayward’ fruit growth.
The application of ABA (5 and 50 ppm), Ethrel (10 ppm), ABA (50 ppm) + Ethrel (10 ppm) was not effective in increasing kiwifruit growth.
