Abstract:
The susceptibility to Erwinia amylovora of a wide range of genotypes of Crataegus was tested experimentally with shoot inoculations.
It was confirmed that, although several genotypes were very susceptible to fire blight, many of them (29 out of 101 tested) showed a high or fairly good level of resistance.
These genotypes could be used immediately by growers.
They could also constitute the starting gene pool for a breeding programme.
It was shown, besides, that with few exceptions, genotypes of North-American origin were usually more resistant than Eurasian types.
