Abstract:
The agricultural support industries have continued to consolidate.
More recently crop protection companies are merging and forming strategic alliances with both biotechnology, equipment (i.e. precision agriculture) and seed companies.
Research efforts in biotechnology are now beginning to become commercially available, some of which are making a significant impact.
World-wide acceptance of Genetically Modified Organisms (GMO) has not been achieved to date and therefore, creates a stumbling block.
Significant regulatory hurdles exist for GMO and crop protectants which will have a negative impact on the crop protection tools available within the horticultural industry.
Steps have been implemented to provide incentive for crop protection companies to make new tools available to horticultural crop producers in a more timely manner.
