| Abstract:
The needs and expectations of the horticultural industry are discussed using one crop, kiwifruit as an example from New Zealand. A brief history of the development of the cultivar ‘Hayward’ is given and the changes that have occured. Examination of the future needs and expectation of the kiwifruit industry in New Zealand uses a selection of A. chinensis. The themes discussed in this section include the role of research in the areas of plant breeding, prediction, pests and people and some key influencing factors. | |
