Abstract:
The influence of 4 different water regimes (non-irrigated and kc of 0.15, 0.30 and 0.45) on cv.
Tempranillo grapevines was studied.
Seven-year-old Tempranillo/110R plants trained to a vertical trellis system were used in this study.
Pruning was adjusted according to water availability at 3.75, 5.42, 6.25 and 7.10 shoots/m2, respectively.
Effective rainfall from leaf fall in 1996 to budbreak in 1997 was 324 mm and from budbreak to leaf fall in 1997 was 172 mm.
Soil water content was measured weekly by the TDR method at depth of 1.10 m.
The distribution of ET ranged from 13.3 to 18.1 % between budbreak and bloom, from 42.6 to 54.1 % between bloom and veraison, from 16.3 to 29 % between veraison and harvest and from 9.1 to 15.5 % between harvest and fall.
Increases in the seasonal ET between veraison and harvest, as well as a decrease between bloom and veraison were observed in response to increased irrigation.
Dry matter production of the canopy showed a similar pattern as water consumption during the season, increasing from veraison to harvest with a higher water availability.
