TYPES OF THE SNAKE CUCUMBER (CUCUMIS MELO VAR. FLEXUOSUS NAUD.) GROWN IN THE SOUTH EAST REGION OF TURKEY

Abstract:
Turkey is origin of so many plant species including snake cucumber (Cucumis melo var. flexuosus Naud.) which is a member of Cucurbitaceae family. Studies were carried out to define the types of snake cucumber largely grown in South-Eastern Anatolia Region. The materials collected from several locations of the region were investigated for their phenological and morphological properties. Some measurements were performed based on plant parts, such as plant height, number of side branches, number of nodes, internode length, length, area and colour of leaves, length of flower pedicel, for mature fruit; length, diameter, weight, colour, yield, soluble solids (TSS) titratable acidity (TA), for ripened fruit; diameter, weight, colour, yield, 1000 seed weight, number of seeds per gram were determined. Only 2 different kind of snake cucumber. within experiment material named furrowed and light furrowed were belong to C. melo var. flexuosus Naud.
