Abstract:
The growth, yield and quality characteristics of tomatoes(Lycopersicon esculentum, Mill) cv.'Daniela', grown on a substrate mixture (perlite:zeolite, 2:1) and 0 (control), 30, 60 or 90 g per plant of complete slow release fertilizer (SRF) was investigated. The control was fertigated with nutrient solution while the substrate with SRF was irrigated 10– 16 times a day. Growth of tomato plant, leaf dry weight, nutrient content, yield, and fruit quality was evaluated up to 10 trusses. Plants grown on substrate mixture with 30 or 60 g of SRF had the highest yield followed by plants grown on 90 g SRF and the control. However, pattern of the quality with 30 or 60 g of SRF had lower total soluble solids content and titratable acidity but higher dry mass. The combination of SRF with growth bag material may provide an alternative cultivation technique, which is simplified, for use by the growers.
