ISHS Acta Horticulturae 491: International Symposium Greenhouse Management for Better Yield & Quality in Mild Winter Climates

THE EFFECT OF VIBRATION ON FRUIT SET AND YIELDS IN TOMATO

Author:   S. Çetinkaya
Keywords:   Fruit setting, growing season, hormone, sowing date, tomato, vibration
Abstract:
Hormones have been used for fruit setting in tomatoes grown in greenhouses for many years. Usually, hormones affect yield and fruit quality. The aim of these studies was to investigate the possibility of increasing fruit set by vibration in tomatoes. Greenhouse trials were carried out in 3 different growing seasons. These were single crop growing, autumn and spring crop growing. Different varieties were used in each season. Both vibration and hormone treatments gave equally good results in all trials. Vibration ensured earliness.
