Abstract:
This study was conducted to determine the effects of the number of fruits per truss (4, 6, 8 fruit per truss) on days to maturity, total yield and quality in Vivia F1 tomatoes grown in Tokat-Turkey during the spring.
Seeds were sown on March 1, and seedlings were transplanted on April 15, 1995. These procedures were carried out in an unheated single layer low plastic tunnel.
Plant apices were removed above the two leaves after the third truss.
Truss prunning was found to affect significantly total yield, but earliness was not found to be significantly influenced by the number of fruits per plant.
The average fruit weight (g) and quality were increased by decreasing the number of fruits per truss.
Hence, yield was increased by decreasing the number of fruits per truss.
On the other hand, the harvesting period was not shortened by decreasing the number of fruits per truss.
