| Abstract:
Anthers were excised from male buds of three bananas varieties. The viability and the in vitro germination capability of pollen of Musa balbisiana: ‘Tani’ (BB); Musa acuminata: ‘Malascensis pahang’ (AA) and pelipita parrenque (ABB) were investigated. Viability tests were based on fluorescence microscopy of loaded calcofluor white (CW) germination. We found an excellent pollen viability as well pollen germination for the three varieties tested. A nurse culture of anthers and pollen, is described for somatic embryogenesis. | |
