ACTIVITIES OF ANTIOXIDANT ENZYMES DURING ERWINIA AMYLOVORA - PLANT INTERACTIONS

Authors:   M. Keck, M. Riedle-Bauer
Keywords:   Erwinia amylovora, oxidative stress
Abstract:
The role of oxidative stress during Erwinia amylovora infections was investigated in artificially infected apple seedlings and in infiltrated tobacco leaves. Peroxidases, catalases and superoxide dismutases were analysed by discontinuous, non denaturating polyacrylamide gel electrophoresis. Activities of enzymatic antioxidants were monitored from inoculation up to symptom development. Increases of enzyme activities were observed both in compatible and in incompable situations. Besides, enzyme isoforms of Erwinia amylovora were compared to isozyme patterns of infected plants.
