Abstract:
The occurrence of fire blight (Erwinia amylovora) on the territory of ex-Yugoslavia was first reported in 1990. The disease had been registered in several localities in Macedonia.
During the past 8 years, E. amylovora kept spreading over the territory of FR Yugoslavia.
The host range of the bacterium has also expanded.
The agent of the disease was identified by conventional methods, as well as by some recently developed computer-supported methods (BIOLOG System and ATB Expert System). Presently, the bacterium is controlled by mechanical removal of infected branches, treatment of dormant fruit trees with copper-based preparations and the conventional quarantine measures.
