Abstract:
In order to understand variability of apricot quality, fruits of 4 varieties (cv 'Modesto', 'Rouge de Roussillon', 'Lambertin n°1', 'Early Blush®') have been analyzed individually at harvest, in relation to their position on the branches.
Many factors of variation have been identified.
It has been shown that flexion is the main reason for these variations.
The largest fruits are located near the most important sap flows.
The sweetest fruits are in the sunniest areas.
This distribution is altered by the bending of branches of which the intensity is prejudicial for quality.
Thinning on the tops of branches homogenizes the grade of fruits without losing returns.
