ISHS Acta Horticulturae 488: XI International Symposium on Apricot Culture

MICROPROPAGATION OF APRICOT AND FIELD PERFORMANCE OF IN VITRO PROPAGATED PLANTS.

Author:   Larisa A. Kramarenko
Keywords:   Moscow, shoots, plantlets, cytokinin, environment, root system
Abstract:
The investigation was carried out on adult fruit-bearing apricot trees adapted to the Moscow climatic conditions. A method of micropropagation especifically effective for apricot has been developed. Apexes of growing shoots were used as the initial material. Successful propagation and rooting of microshoots in vitro were achieved. The adaptation to field conditions was successful as well. A dormant period under low temperature was necessary before planting outdoors. Growing of in vitro propagated plants in the open air presented serious problems, in the first place an abnormal morphology of the root system. The method of mass propagation was not believed to be profitable for apricot.
