Abstract:
A study was carried out on the inheritance of the self-incompatibility character among apricot hybrids obtained from the breeding project for resistance to plum pox virus disease.
A hundred and seventy progenies have been examined.
They derived from crosses and reciprocal crosses of the self-compatible Greek cultivar ‘Bebecou’ with two self-incompatible cultivars ‘Veecot’ and ‘Sunglo’ from North America.
At least two hundred closed flower buds from each hybrid, in the balloon stage, were enclosed in insect proof bags and fruiting was determined fifty days later.
The results indicated that approximately half of the total number of hybrids have inherited the trait of self-incompatibility.
