ISHS Acta Horticulturae 488: XI International Symposium on Apricot Culture

RANDOM AMPLIFIED POLYMORPHIC DNA MARKERS AS A TOOL FOR APRICOT CULTIVAR IDENTIFICATION

Authors:   M.A. Hurtado, M.L. Badenes, G. Llácer
Keywords:   Prunus armeniaca, RAPD, fingerprinting, cultivar relationships
Abstract:
Eighteen apricot cultivars from North America, France and Spain were screened using random amplified polymorphic DNA (RAPD) markers. Forty decamer primers were screened for their ability to produce polymorphism. Twenty-two of these revealed 45 reproducible and polymorphic amplified fragments useful as markers. Each of the 18 cultivars can be discriminated with a few primers. Cluster analysis based on similarity among cultivars was performed. The dendrogram produced showed relationships among cultivars in good agreement with their origin and previous results based on isozymes markers.
