ISHS Acta Horticulturae 488: XI International Symposium on Apricot Culture

INVESTIGATIONS ON SOME FAR-EAST PRUNUS SPECIES: PHENOLOGY

Authors:   R. Tzonev, M. Yamaguchi
Abstract:
The observations carried out in the region of Tsukuba, Japan on a total of 125 varieties belonging to P. armeniaca L., P. armeniaca var. ansu Maxim., P. mume Sieb. et Zucc., and some Interspecific hybrids (ISH) shows that some very interesting varieties could be selected. It was found that “Bungo” type apricots are in blossom a month later than the rest of the Mume cultivars. They were also selected some very early ripening cultivars and hybrids: “Yamagata 1”, “Heiwa”, “Okitama” (P. armeniaca var. ansu), “MA 1–2” (P. mume cv. “Shirokaga” X P. armeniaca var. ansu cv. “Heiwa”), “AM 3-1” (P. armeniaca var. ansu cv. “Ogasawara” X P. mume cv. “Jizoume”). Their fruit maturity period is 3–5 days before this of “NJA 32”.
