Abstract:
Turkey exports more than 44.000 tons of dried apricot. For many years the apricot production of Turkey has been unregulated because of late spring frost. Resistance to late frosts, growth vigor, productivity, pomological and phenological characteristics were examined in native apricot at Gevas in 1995 – 1996. Apricot trees with resistance to late spring frost were selected at 1730 m. The lowest temperature at full blooming time was - 1.2°C in 1995. The whole trees were damaged in flowering time, except 45 types that flowered 10 –15 days later than Hasanbey and others trees. At the end of the study 28 types with high yield and resistant to late spring frost were selected. In these types, average fruit weight varied between 12.70±1.42 to 30.19 ±5.1 g. Seed weight varied from 0.88±0.1 and 2.07±0.2 g. Soluble solid content varied between 13.57±1.2 – 28.63±12.54.%
