ISHS Acta Horticulturae 487: VI International Symposium on Processing Tomato & Workshop on Irrigation & Fertigation of Processing Tomato

THE USE OF DECISION SUPPORT SYSTEMS TO MANAGE FERTIGATION AND TO MINIMIZE ENVIRONMENTAL EFFECTS: A CHALLENGE FOR THE FUTURE

Authors:   A. Battilani, E. Fereres
Keywords:   Fertigation, decision support system, nutrient simplified balance
Abstract:
The need for a Decision Support System (DSS) capable of specifically managing processing tomato fertigation is outlined and emphasized. An hypothetical structure to building a tomato fertigation DSS is presented. The simplified DSS structure contains eight sub-models: climate, water balance, soil characteristics, N balance, P balance, K balance, crop development and growth and root growth. The most suitable characteristics of each sub-model are discussed.
