ISHS Acta Horticulturae 487: VI International Symposium on Processing Tomato & Workshop on Irrigation & Fertigation of Processing Tomato

DEVELOPMENT OF NEW PEELED TOMATO HYBRIDS FOR PROCESSING IN NAVARRE (SPAIN)

Authors:   J.I. Macua, E. Di1az, J. Garnica
Abstract:
A total of 58 hybrid varieties have been tested by the horticultural department of I.T.G. Agriculture over the last five years, of which very few have managed to find a place in the market due to the fact that the material already on the market is difficult to beat in terms of quality and yield. On this occasion six well-known hybrids (4 check genotypes) with long years of testing behind them were tested alongside fifteen not so well-known hybrids. Yields proved to be even over the testing period, with new varieties such as ZU.0154. Super Canner, Peralta and Soto standing out, either matching or beating the check genotypes in terms of yield. The average weights of the fruit Malpica, Soto and Elba are over 70 g, their being those of greatest unit weight. The °Brix of six varieties fall between 4.8 and 5.0, while the rest go over this figure. With regards colour (a/b), Ranger, Super Canner and Oleppel (T.9126) all stand out.
